Fort Rucker Outdoor Recreation is excited to provide Wounded Warriors and Wounded Veterans with disabilities specialized recreation equipment. Fort Rucker Outdoor Recreation provides Wounded Warriors and Wounded Veterans specialized recreation equipment. This equipment makes the great outdoors more accessible for Wounded Warriors and Wounded Veterans with physical limitations.  Fort Rucker Family & MWR provides Soldiers, Civilians and their Families with a quality of life commensurate with the quality of their service. Patrons can coordinate with the Fort Rucker Outdoor Recreation department for assistance with using the equipment.   • Travel Trailer: 42 ft wheelchair accessible travel trailer sleeps six and comes complete with hydraulic wheelchair lift, wheelchair-accessible shower, bathroom, and full kitchen.
    • Priority 1 - AW2: No Fee  /  Priority 2 - $25 per day  /  Priority 3 - $35 per day
  • Track Chair: Handicap accessible mobile tracked wheelchair allows a hunter to go over various outdoor terrains. Battery powered, rechargeable, and can operate for up to four hours on a single charge.
    • Priority 1 - AW2: No Fee  /  Priority 2 - $15 per day  /  Priority 3 - $25 per day
  • Hunting Stands: The hydraulic lift hunting stand sits on a trailer with controls that allows it to be lowered to the ground so no ramp is needed. It can be elevated to any height up to 18 ft providing a better field of view for hunting.
    • Priority 1 - AW2: No Fee  /  Priority 2 - $15 per day  /  Priority 3 - $25 per day
  • Boat: A customized Rhino boat, The Warrior, includes a wheelchair ramp for easy access onto the boat, specialized controls, remote control automated anchor, wheelchair locking system and specialized safety features. The boat capacity: up to eight people (1,160 pounds), and can be used for various activities such as fishing and water sports.
    • Priority 1 - AW2: No Fee  /  Priority 2 - $15 per day  /  Priority 3 - $25 per day
  • Wounded Warrior Retreat by the Lake:  The retreat (cabin), a three bedroom, two bathroom ADA accessible cabin was donated by the Wiregrass Wounded Veterans Committee (WWVC).
    • Priority 1 - AW2: No Fee  /  Priority 2 - $40 per day  /  Priority 3 - $85 per day

Classifications

Classifications:

  • Priority 1: AW2: (An Active Duty Soldier that has been classified by the medical profession to be a Wounded Warrior)/ Wounded Warriors/Wounded Veteran with severe injuries limiting mobility.
  • Priority 2: Active Duty Soldier with a physically disabled family member.
  • Priority 3: Authorized patron with a physically disabled family member/guest.  
  • Wounded Warrior/Wounded Veterans Clarification: U.S. Service Members (active, national guard and reserve), active-duty personnel assigned to a DoD Wounded Warrior Program (i.e. USA WTC or MEDCOM WTU, USMC WWR, etc.), and Veterans who have a disability resulting from a wound, injury, or disease received in the line of duty. Participating Wounded Veterans are or have been affiliated with Department of Defense (DoD) Wounded Warrior Programs such as U.S. Army (USA) Warrior Transition Command (WTC) and Medical Command (MEDCOM) Warrior Transition Units (WTU), U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR), and other DoD or Dept of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical treatment facilities or programs.

Reserving Wounded Warrior Equipment

Reservation Policy:

If a Priority 1- AW2 is not utilizing the cabin/equipment, it becomes available in the following order to Priority 2, and then Priority 3 classifications. However, if a Priority 1- AW2 request comes in, a Priority 2 or Priority 3 reservation can be bumped with a 7 days notice to accommodate the Priority 1- AW2.

  • Priority Level 1: Max stay seven days (can book six months out)
  • Priority Level 2: Max stay two days (can book one month out)
  • Priority Level 3: Max stay two days (can book one month out)

Patrons wanting to utilize the boat must complete the Fort Rucker Boater Safety Course. There will also be a separate safety briefing given to all patrons before the boat is released to the user.
