The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) will conduct domestic violence educational training through the “Breaking the Silence About Domestic Violence” organization. The speakers, Kirsten Faith Paruginog and Terry Josiah Sharpe, will be sharing their stories as victim of domestic violence and as the abuser, respectively. Ms. Faith shares her experience with domestic violence, relationships, the impact of trauma, the power of vulnerability, finding love after trauma, and the reality of the abusers repetitive cycle. Mr. Sharpe shares his story of overcoming abuse and being an abuser. He uses past relationships and behaviors to educate on warning signs of abusive traits and encourages men to join the movement. It is a presentation that will leave the audience with an important understanding that domestic violence can happen to anyone and how it can be effectively handled by loved ones and the community at large. Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Victim Advocates will be available at each performance. The First responders will receive training on Monday, 1 October 2018 at the Commons (Bldg 8950) from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
